A Quaker Child Takes a Knee

“Liam took a knee as his Cub Scout troupe led the Durham City Council in the pledge of allegiance.”

Consider some of the comments on the above X (Twitter) post:

@SouthlandCurt: “What a load of hoooeeeeyyyyy!!!  Scouts used to teach respect for God and Country, including the pledge. Dad’s liberal political agenda should have no place there.”

@MichaelKeith: “Clueless child only because he has been taught zero civic pride of country. Hope they ban him from C.S. because he doesnt understand why he is there. Don’t need this cancer in that group teaching other kids to be disrespectful. If they didnt ban him I’d remove my child.”

Imagine what you would say to this child if you were in the room when this picture was taken.

Have you ever had to choose between your beliefs and the law?

Historically, Quakers have refused to take oaths because of their commitment to telling truth all the time. How does this resonate (or not) with your personal spiritual practice?
