Conscience Is Not the Infallible Voice of Truth
“Conscience is not the infallible voice of truth, of the moral law, of God, or of anything else, but only man’s ability to hear this voice. This inner ear of man is, however, just as much subject to error as his physical ear.
Just as no physical ear is capable of hearing all the sounds in the world in their entirety, and not even all the sounds made by the smallest creatures, so no conscience possesses the ability to perceive all the appeals of truth or of God, or the whole truth or message of the voice of humanity or of reason.”
— Wilhelm Mensching, 1961 (source)
German pastor and founder of Freundschaftsheim
